DARREN SIWES- Installation view, 2008.

Honorary Numismatist at the Art Gallery of South Australia (AGSA), Peter Lane, has timed the release of his new article entitled “Portrait Gallery of Australian Monarchs” perfectly to coincide with the Queen’s Birthday Weekend. In the article Peter presents a gallery of portraits that have appeared on coins used in Australia since the reign of George III up to the most recent portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by British artist Jody Clark. He also links to a portrait entitled Gold female from the series Oz Omnium Rex Et Regina by Ngalkban artist Darren Siews. in this series the artist depicts a future coinage using new imagery of Queen Mary and King George as represented by Indigenous portraits.
