Castlemaine’s New Currency is Down to Earth

posted in: Numismatic Items | 0

The Victorian town of Castlemaine has launched its own currency to support local businesses. The Silver Wattle coins are made from local clay and are designed by local artists to reflect the area’s flora. These artists are running an exhibition based around the idea of currency for the next two weeks in Castlemaine. The story has been picked up by the local paper and the ABC. More details can be found on the Currency Project’s Facebook Page.
